ZIM vs BAN 2nd ODI: Sikandar Raza struck an unbeaten 117 to help Zimbabwe beat Bangladesh by five wickets on Sunday and take a 2-0 lead in the three-match one-day international series. This was Zimbabwe’s second successful run chase in as many days.
After Bangladesh recorded 290-9 in Harare, the Pakistan-born batsman and captain Regis Chakabva added 201 runs for the fifth wicket. Their partnership turned the match around.
After losing early wickets and a poor scoring pace made it seem like Zimbabwe had little chance of winning at Harare Sports Club, they reached 291-5 with 15 balls to spare.
Zimbabwe began a spectacular turnaround under new coach Dave Houghton by winning the opening game on Friday by five wickets against opponents rated eight places higher.
The former star batsman of the national team appointed in June. When Zimbabwe was in a slump following 3-0 ODI and Twenty20 whitewashes by visiting Afghanistan.
Houghton urged his team to be expressive, not to be afraid to make mistakes. And also not to intimidated by opponents, no matter how formidable they might have seemed on paper.
As Zimbabwe gets ready for the T20 World Cup in Australia starting in October. The victory on Sunday was the team’s ninth in ten ODI and also T20 games under Houghton.
