Women’s World Cup: Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar shine as India defeat West Indies in warm-up fixture
Women’s World Cup: India defeated West Indies by 81 runs in their second warm-up match ahead of the 2018 50-over World Cup at the Rangiora Oval on Tuesday. Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, and Pooja Vastrakar were the standout performances.
West Indies’ chase for 259 got off to a terrible start when opening batsman Deandra Dottin (1) was dismissed in Meghna Singh’s fourth over. Pooja Vastrakar then sent Aaliyah Alleyne (12) and Stafanie Taylor (8) back to the pavilion, reducing the Windies to 43/3 in the 17th over. Hayley Matthews (44) and Shemaine Campbelle (63) revived the Windies innings with a 69-run fifth-wicket stand. However, Meghna Singh bowled Matthews in the 38th over, bringing the Windies to 122/5.

The West Indies were unable to recover as they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, and India eventually won by 81 runs.
Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma had earlier contributed 66 and 51 runs to India’s 258-run total. Mithali Raj and Yastika Bhatia also contributed with 42 and 30 runs respectively.
Hayley Matthews, Cherry-Ann Fraser, and Karishma Ramharack each took two wickets for the West Indies.
