WI vs ENG: England Men have named their XI for the 2nd Test against the West Indies at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

England make one change from the drawn first Test in Antigua. Lancashire seamer Saqib Mahmood will make his Test debut replacing Durham’s Mark Wood, who has a right elbow injury.

During the first Test, Wood suffered an injury to his right elbow.

Mahmood, 25, has played in seven one-day internationals and 12 Twenty20 internationals in the last two and a half years, but this is his first opportunity to demonstrate his international credentials with a red ball.

He is the fastest alternative available and is also considered one of the best exponents of reverse swing, although not being capable of consistently breaking the 90mph barrier like Wood.

Mahmood has impressed captain Joe Root throughout his spell with the Test team and now has the opportunity to deliver at the Kensington Oval, which has seen a number of fast bowling great over the years.

“He’s very mature for a guy who hasn’t played a huge amount of international cricket, he has an understanding of how he wants to operate,” said Root.

“He’s been very impressive, he’s got a slightly different trajectory and will give us a point of difference. He has done that when he’s played in other formats. Clearly he has good control, especially if the ball moves with reverse swing. It’s a great option to have up our sleeve.”
