VVS Laxman named interim Head Coach of Team India for Asia Cup 2022

Former India batsman and present National Cricket Academy (NCA) head VVS Laxman will be the interim Head Coach for Rohit Sharma-led Team India for the upcoming ACC Asia Cup 2022, to be played in the UAE.

The 47-year-old will serve as the Indian team’s interim coach for the Asia Cup. That will played from August 27 to September 11. As head coach Rahul Dravid was unable to travel to the UAE after testing positive for the Covid-19 result.

“Mr Laxman, who travelled with the Indian team that played the ODI series in Zimbabwe will oversee the team’s preparation in the absence of Mr Rahul Dravid, who tested positive for COVID-19 before the team’s departure to the UAE. Mr Dravid will join the team once he tests negative and is cleared by the BCCI Medical Team,” BCCI said in a statement.

Laxman, who coached India during their just finished three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe have returned to Dubai from Harare.

“Mr Laxman has linked up with the squad in Dubai. Along with vice-captain Mr KL Rahul, Mr Deepak Hooda and also Mr Avesh Khan, who travelled from Harare,” it added.

On Sunday, India will play against their arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup opener.
