Laxman, who coached India during their just finished three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe, said to have returned to Dubai from Harare, according to a Cricbuzz report.
The remaining members of the Zimbabwe series team who were not travelling to India for the Asia Cup have since returned.
The 47-year-old will serve as the Indian team’s interim coach for the Asia Cup. That will played from August 27 to September 11, according to report. As head coach Rahul Dravid was unable to travel to the UAE after testing positive for the Covid-19 result.
Notably, Laxman’s role as tournament coach has not formally announced by the BCCI.
“Mr Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report,” the board had earlier said in a statement on Tuesday.
Laxman will lead the team till Dravid returns his duties. While Dravid’s health status is still being checked, according to report. On Sunday, India will play against their arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup opener.
