Victorious Sri Lankan cricket team to celebrate Asia Cup win with double-decker ride
Officials said on Monday that members of Sri Lanka’s winning Asia Cup team will ride a double-decker bus across Colombo and meet with ecstatic supporters to celebrate their victory over Pakistan.
On Sunday, Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 23 runs to win their sixth Asia Cup title in Dubai, providing great relief to the island nation’s people who had been severely affected by the worst economic instability in many years.
At the Bandaranaike International Airport in this city, representatives from Sri Lanka Cricket. And the Sports Ministry will greet the Dasun Shanaka-led team when they arrive on Tuesday at 5 a.m., officials said.
The players will then take part in a triumph parade at 6.30 am, travel by double-decker bus from Colombo to Katunayake, and engage in fan interaction, according to officials.

“Believe in our cricketers…a lot of bad things are going around. As cricketers, they too should enjoy their lives as well, not spreading bad things. Also they have private lives too. Keep believing, that is the key. As a captain, I give confidence to the players, [whatever] I can. I can’t ask for more than that,” captain Shanaka said at the post-match conference, as Sri Lanka’s unprecedented economic crisis formed the backdrop of the cricket team’s Asia Cup campaign.
