Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar on Friday said that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is a perfect opportunity for all-rounder Suryakumar Yadav to cement his place in Team India.

Suryakumar is a player of the Mumbai Indians (MI) after the team decided to keep him ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

“It has been a wonderful last couple of seasons for Suryakumar Yadav and IPL 2022 is a great opportunity for him to cement his place in the Indian team by performing well again this season,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports show, The Gameplan.

“The Indian team for the T20 World Cup will to a great extent decided on IPL performances. So, Yadav has got this great opportunity to enhance his chances to be picked in the squad that flies to Australia,” he added.

The former captain further said that Australia batsman David Warner doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone. And will be a major contributor to the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 15.

Warner was once a member of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). However he released after a disappointing performance in the IPL 2021. Later, during the IPL 2022 mega auction, he bought by Delhi Capitals (DC).

“At this stage in Warner’s career, he does not have to prove anything to anybody except himself. Last year was just one of those bad patches that every cricketer goes through. And he will contribute heavily with the bat for Delhi Capitals this time around,” said the former captain.

The IPL 15 season will begin on Saturday. With the first match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). On Sunday, MI and DC will face off in their first encounter.
