SL vs PAK: Pakistan batting coach Mohammad Yousuf said on Wednesday that despite needing an extraordinary 508-run chase to win the second Test against Sri Lanka, he was certain his team could still play for victory.

Imam-ul-Haq finished day four with a score of 46, while skipper Babar Azam had a score of 26, as the tourists closed the day on 89-1.

To win, they will need 419 more runs, or they can tie the game and take the series 1-0 by batting through the final three innings.

“Babar and Imam are playing to their strength and I feel if they play in the same manner we will try to go for the target,” said Yousuf.

He said that the team had compared itself to its successful 506-run chase against Australia at home in March, in a game that ended in a 443-7 draw.

“I think the same target is needed in the same amount of time. Babar played an excellent innings of 196. Abdullah Shafique got 96 and it was a very good game,” Yousuf told reporters.

“The way Babar and Imam are playing it will be an interesting day tomorrow.”

The West Indies, who scored 418 against Australia in 2003 at Antigua, hold the record for the biggest successful Test chase.

Yousuf, though, claimed that the group was at ease and looking forward to the task of giving their best effort.

“Boys are not under pressure, they are enjoying the game and also taking on the challenge,” he said.

Pakistan defeated South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Bangladesh last year despite losing their three-match home series to Australia by a score of 1-0.
