NZ vs SA 2nd Test: On Day 1 of the ongoing second Test against New Zealand at the Hagley Oval, excellent batting efforts by Aiden Markram and Sarel Erwee kept South Africa in command.

South Africa’s score at stumps was 238/3, with Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen both unbeaten at the crease. With the Proteas opting to bat first, openers Dean Elgar and Erwee got off to a good start by stitching a 100-run partnership, until Tim Southee dismissed the Proteas captain for 42 runs, leaving the team’s score at 111/1.

Erwee was soon joined by Markram, and the two worked together to reclaim the initiative. With Markram scoring from the other end, the former got his century and kept the scoreboard going.

Neil Wagner then took the field and dismissed Markram for 42 runs. Following his ejection, Matt Henry sent back Erwee, bringing the team’s total to 199/3.

Later, Bavuma (22*) and Van van Dussen (13*) teamed together to keep the boat going towards Proteas. At the end of Day 1, the pair helped their team to a total of 238/3.
