NZ vs IND: Great to get four wins against quality side, says Amelia Kerr
NZ vs IND: New Zealand batter Amelia Kerr expressed happiness after helping the White Ferns beat India in the fourth ODI of the five-match series at the John Davies Oval in Queenstown on Tuesday.
New Zealand defeated India by 63 runs with Amelia Kerr’s 68-run knock and a powerful bowling effort. Rain forced the fourth One-Day International to be shortened to 20 overs each side.
“With the rain, we were wondering if we would get on and in the end. It turned out into a T20 match which is always good fun. Therefore, it was nice to post a good total. Sophie and Suzie got off to flyers. Also I just carried that momentum. I have done a lot of work throughout the winter on my batting,” said Amelia Kerr after the game.
“I have been training similar to a game situation. It is great to get four wins against a quality side. And they have been very successful in the women’s game. Moreover, to have that belief and confidence with the bat is massive heading into the World Cup,” she added.
India’s chase for 192 got off to the worst possible start when Shafali Verma (0), Yastika Bhatia (0), and Pooja Vastrakar (4) all fell in rapid succession, reducing them to 12/3 in the third over. Hayley Jensen sent Smriti Mandhana (13) back to the pavilion soon after, and India was in trouble at 19/4 in the fifth over.
The Indian innings was then reignited by Richa Ghosh and Mithali Raj. Ghosh scored her fifty in just 26 balls, making it the fastest fifty by an Indian batsman in Women’s One-Day Internationals. However, the 18-year-old was dismissed in the 13th over after scoring 52 runs, and India was reduced to 96/5.
India was unable to recover from this setback, and New Zealand went on to win comfortably.
New Zealand has taken a 4-0 lead in the five-match series with this victory. The final One-Day International will now take place on Thursday.
