Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face off in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 opener on March 26. The IPL 2022 season will begin on March 26 and final on May 29, with the final taking place on May 29.

“Yes, KKR and CSK will play the tournament opener on March 26. Maharashtra government has also given permission for having a green channel for all the teams and this will help them avoid traffic when they leave their hotel for matches or practice,” Sources told ANI.

The source also confirmed that about 25 per cent crowd will be allowed for the initial matches of the IPL 2022.

“25 per cent crowd will be allowed for the initial matches. And the capacity can increased after the Maharashtra government gives its go ahead,” the source added.

The last time KKR and CSK met was in the IPL 2021 final, which the MS Dhoni-led team won.

In Mumbai and Pune, a total of 70 league matches will contested over four international grade stadiums. The location of the playoff games will determined later.

Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will hold 20 matches, while Brabourne Stadium will host 15 matches (CCI). Twenty matches will held at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, while 15 will held at Pune’s MCA International Stadium.

Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium will host four matches each. While Brabourne Stadium (CCI) and MCA International Stadium in Pune will host three matches each.

The 10 teams will compete in a total of 14 league matches (7 at home and 7 away). For a total of 70 league matches, followed by four playoff matches. Each team will face the same five teams twice. And the remaining four teams just once (2 at home and 2 only away).
