IPL 2022: CSK reveal reason for holding camp in Surat

IPL 2022: Four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have opted to hold their preparatory camp in Surat and the franchise has revealed the reason for opting for this city in Gujarat.

The 15th edition of IPL’s league matches will be played in Mumbai and Pune from March 26 to May 29. Many are wondering why CSK, the defending champions, are not training in Chennai for IPL 2022.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has explained why the ‘Men in Yellow’ will be in Surat from March 8 for the camp, and not at their home ground – MA Chidambaram Stadium. According to him, the pitches in Surat will be similar to the ones in Mumbai and Pune.

“With the Chennai pitch clay-based, we decided to practice on wickets that will be similar to those in Mumbai and Pune. Also, the travel will be easy,” Viswanathan told Espncricinfo.

CSK captain MS Dhoni, assistant coach Laxmipathy Balaji, and other members of the support staff landed in Surat on Wednesday. According to Viswanathan, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming. And the rest of the overseas support staff will arrive in India on March 12.

On Thursday, the official Twitter handle of CSK shared a 39-second video clip where CSK players Dhoni, Rayudu. And others welcomed at a hotel in Surat. The video posted with hashtags #SingamsInSurat #WhistlePodu and #Yellove.

After the preparatory camp in Surat, CSK may leave for Mumbai by road on March 20, as per the franchise’s CEO.
