IPL 2022: For the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Gujarat Titans will almost certainly replace Jason Roy with Rahmamullah Gurbaz, the hard-hitting Afghanistan opener. Roy had withdrawn from the IPL because he did not want to stay in the bubble for an extended length of time.

Apart from having a career T20 strike rate of 150 or higher as an opener. Gurbaz is also a capable wicketkeeper, making him a versatile player. The ability of the 20-year-old to clear the ropes is the most intriguing aspect. In 69 T20 games, he has hit 113 sixes.

In his short but exciting career, he has played 9 ODIs and 12 T20Is.

The Gujarat Titans have yet to officially declare Gurbaz as a replacement, pending BCCI approval. However, it is thought that the team think-tank has benefited greatly from the expertise of star spinner Rashid Khan, who was also Gurbaz’s senior on the Afghanistan side.

Gurbaz’s arrival could also help Titans resolve another issue, their ‘keeping crisis’.

Matthew Wade is only available for the second week of the IPL. And the only backup ‘keeper on the list is Wriddhiman Saha, who may be forced to play despite his not such a great recent T20 record.

Head coach Ashish Nehra and captain Hardik Pandya may be less concerned now that Gurbaz has joined the team.

Gurbaz has played for the Multan Sultans and Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League. And the Kandy Tuskers in the Lanka Premier League. Also the Khulna Tigers in the Bangladesh Premier League.
