India vs Pakistan: Former Pakistan skipper and legendary pacer Wasim Akram said that outstanding Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav will be vital for the squad and have the capacity to hurt Pakistan in the Asia Cup ahead of the highly anticipated matchup between the archrivals.

Suryakumar has scored 672 runs at an average of 37.33 in 23 T20I games, with five fifty-run innings, also including 117 in a close game against England at The Oval. On August 28, India and Pakistan will square off in a high-intensity match to open their Asia Cup campaigns.

UAE will host the Asia Cup in 2022, which will take place from August 27 through September 11.

“Of course, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli are there. But one of my favourite players these days, in this shorter format is Suryakumar Yadav. He has been phenomenal. I saw him the first year when he joined the Kolkata Knight Riders and he played a couple of games batting at No. 7 and 8. And also a couple of shots he played – the one that he picks from the middle of his bat towards fine leg. That’s an unusual and difficult shot to muster,” Wasim Akram said in a press conference organised by Star Sports.

Coming to the Asia Cup, six teams will compete in the 15th edition of the competition in the UAE. India, who are the current winners, has won the trophy seven times, making them the most successful team overall. This year’s tournament will use the T20 format. As opposed to the ODI format that was used for the previous one.

The six teams are split into two groups: Group A includes India, Pakistan, and a team that qualified; Group B includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. In the group stage, each team faces off against the other once. With the top two teams from each group moving on to the Super 4 round. Therefore, the top two teams from the Super 4 will advance to the championship.
