IND vs SL: India captain Rohit Sharma believes his team’s fielding skills need to improve because they are continuously dropping catches.

Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer both scored fifty runs as India thrashed Sri Lanka in the first T20I at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

“It’s consistently happening. We are dropping easy catches. Our fielding coach has some work to do. Come Australia, we want to be a great fielding side,” said Rohit Sharma in a post-match presentation.

India grabbed a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka with this 62-run victory. Both teams will now face off in the second Twenty20 International on Saturday.

Sri Lanka, chasing 200 runs, got off to the worst possible start, losing two wickets in three overs. As Sri Lanka battled in the chase, Bhuvneshwar dismissed both openers Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara.

In the tenth over, Sri Lanka reached 50 runs, but they lost two more wickets. For the visitors, Charith Asalanka scored a fifty, but the asking rate was too high and Sri Lanka lost momentum.

Sri Lanka needed 102 runs in the final four overs to win the first T20I, however they were completely outplayed and lost by a large margin.
