IND vs SL: Batter Sanju Samson expressed happiness after his knock helped Team India defeat Sri Lanka in the second T20I on Saturday.

India defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the second T20I on Saturday, thanks to Shreyas Iyer’s stunning fifty and Ravindra Jadeja’s 45 in 18 balls. Samson also contributed to his team’s victory with a 39-run knock off 25 balls.

“I think the wicket was playing really well. The outfield is flying, boundaries short at this ground. When we were in good rhythm we knew this is easily chasable. 10 per over at this ground isn’t a huge task. The partnership with Shreyas Iyer helped me take extra time to get the rhythm back. We both have played enough cricket to understand who is going well and who needs time. I wanted to go after the bowling, but the rhythm wasn’t there for the starting 10-12 balls,” said Samson in a post-match presentation.

“We are getting used to the conditions and doing whatever is needed. Really special day for me. I made my debut seven years ago and finally contributing positively to the team’s success means a lot to me playing for the country,” he added.

India’s chase for 184 got off to a poor start when skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed in the first over. As the batter edged the ball onto the stumps, Dushmantha Chameera removed Rohit. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer put on a 35-run stand in the sixth over, but Lahiru Kumara removed the batter.

The innings then carried by Shreyas and Sanju Samson, who accelerated at the ideal time to get close to the target.

Binura Fernando took a one-handed catch to dismiss Samson in the 13th over, reducing India to 128/3.

In the second T20I, though, Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer (74) led India to a comfortable victory over Sri Lanka. In 25 balls, Jadeja and Shreyas put on a crucial 58-run stand.

India also sealed the two-match T20I series (2-0) with one game remaining. On Sunday, the third T20I between the two teams will be played.
