ENG vs SA: First day of England vs South Africa 3rd Test washed out

ENG vs SA: The first day of the third and deciding Test between Ben Stokes-led England and South Africa at The Oval was washed out by rain on Thursday with no play possible.

A shower arrived minutes before the players took the field after England won the toss and elected to put South Africa in to bat.

Following a frustrating day of intermittent coverings, a formal notification that no play would be able would be made at 15.45GMT.

On Friday, more rain is expected in London, but the weekend’s prospects appear more promising.

With both Tests lasting three days, the series is tied at one each. South Africa defeated England by an innings and 85 runs in the second match at Old Trafford after winning the first by an innings and 12 runs at Lord’s.

Harry Brook, a batsman making his debut for England, has taken Jonny Bairstow’s position. After the latter suffered a catastrophic leg injury while playing golf last week.

In first-class cricket this year, Brook has averaged 107. And prior to the series, he struck 140 against South Africa for the England Lions in a non-first class match.

South Africa made four changes from the second Test. Despite losing Rassie van der Dussen due to a fractured finger and Lungi Ngidi out of precaution.

Aiden Markram and Simon Harmer must make room for Ryan Rickelton, Khaya Zondo, Wiaan Mulder, and Marco Jansen.
