Bangladesh to play against UAE in T20 World Cup 2022 build-up
Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh will play two T20 international matches against the United Arab Emirates as part of their build-up for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, the country’s cricket board said Thursday.
In a joint statement with its UAE counterpart, the Emirates Cricket Board, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced that the two matches would be played on September 25 and 27 in Dubai.
“This tour will be an important part of Bangladesh team’s lead up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia,” said BCB chief executive officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury.
In the shortest format of cricket, Bangladesh has only faced the UAE once before. After winning at home by 51 runs in 2016.
Beginning on October 16, both teams will compete in the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia.
In Group A of the first round, the UAE will compete against the Sri Lanka, Namibia, and the Netherlands.
The second round will comprised of two teams from each of the two groups from the preliminary round.
Bangladesh will included in Group 2 of the second round along with two qualifiers, South Africa, India, and Pakistan.
Before departing for Australia to compete in the T20 World Cup. Bangladesh will also play in a tri-nation competition in New Zealand that also features the hosts and Pakistan.
