BAN vs SL: Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne dedicates his team’s win to his country after a 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second Test.

Sri Lanka won the second Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh on Friday at Shere Bangla stadium.

“We would like to thank the Sri Lankans back home, this win is for them, the country is going through troubled times at the moment,” said Dimuth in a post-match presentation.

“We have done well as a Test team over the last few years, a lot of performances and we’ll need to continue in the same way,” he added.

Further discussing the bowlers, the left-hander praised his fast bowlers for their efforts in both innings, but he also stated that spinners must perform much better in the series due to the more spin-friendly conditions.

“We knew we needed a couple of wickets to go our way (on the final day). The fast bowlers did the job for us, both in the first innings as well as the second. We do get good wickets for spinners in such conditions, they did well in patches. But I’m a bit disappointed at how they bowled. They’ll have to do a lot better in the next series,” said Dimuth.

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first in the match. In the first innings, Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das scored the most runs. They put on a 272-run partnership at the sixth wicket, scoring 175 and 141 runs respectively. Shakib Al Hasan grabbed five wickets in the first innings, while Ebadot Hossain took four wickets.

SL hitters responded by scoring 506 runs and taking a 141-run lead. Angelo Mathews scored 145 runs, while Dinesh Chandimal hit 124. With his opening partner, Oshada Fernando, who scored 57 runs, captain Dimuth Karunaratne got off to a fantastic start, scoring 80 runs. For SL, Kasun Rajitha had a five-wicket haul while Asitha Fernando had four.

Bangladesh scored 169 runs in the second innings and were all out. Shakib Al Hasan scored 58 runs, while Litton Das scored 52.

The Sri Lankan hitters quickly chased down the 29-run mark in just three overs, with Oshada Fernando scoring 21 runs.
