BAN vs AFG: Hazratullah Zazai hit an unbeaten half-century to help Afghanistan beat Bangladesh by eight wickets in the second T20I in Dhaka on Saturday, tying the two-match series at 1-1.

After Fazalhaq Farooqi and Azmatullah Omarzai each took three wickets to reduce Bangladesh to 115-9, Zazai hit 59 off 45 balls and Usman Ghani hit 47 to lead Afghanistan to 121-2 in 17.4 overs.

Before the game, a minute’s silence was observed in honour of late Australian greats Shane Warne and Rodney Marsh.

As the hosts failed to build on Thursday’s convincing 61-run victory, both Zazai and Ghani benefited from Bangladesh’s careless fielding.

Nasum Ahmed dismissed Zazai for nought on the third delivery of the innings, before Afif Hossain and Mohammad Naim rescued Ghani from Mahedi Hasan’s bowling at 39 and 41, respectively.

Mahedi struck early, dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz for three, but Zazai and Ghani exploited Bangladesh’s poor fielding to put on 99 runs for the second wicket.

With Afghanistan only 13 runs away from victory, Mahmudullah Riyad removed Ghani to break the stand.

Darwish Rasooli left to finish the game with a booming six off left-arm spinner Nasum.
Afghanistan’s skipper, Mohammad Nabi, praised the team’s bowling performance.

After deciding to bat first, the hosts were unable to get going, losing wickets at regular intervals.

“It was a good wicket to bat on. We didn’t put together enough partnerships. I am very disappointed the way this game turned up,” said Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah.

“We need to improve our fielding. That’s something we need to work on,” he added.

In his 100th T20I, Mushfiqur Rahim top-scored with 30 off 25 balls, while Mahmudullah added 21 off 13 balls.

Before trapped in front by leg-spinner Rashid Khan on 19. Mahmudullah became the first Bangladeshi to score 2000 runs in T20I.

Farooqi had 3-19 points, while Omarzai had 3-22.
