AUS vs NZ: New Zealand has little time to recuperate after making history in the Caribbean before travelling to Australia for an international one-day series that was constantly postponed due to COVID-19.

On Wednesday, the Black Caps were halfway through a three-day trip back to New Zealand following a successful tour of the West Indies, where they recorded their first one-day and T20 series victories over the hosts.

They will take a week off at home in New Zealand before returning to Australia for another one-day series in an effort to maintain their winning streak before the T20 World Cup, which will held in the same nation.

The pandemic put a sudden end to international sport in March 2020, ending New Zealand’s final white-ball tour of Australia.

Multiple attempts to reschedule the one-day Chappell-Hadlee Trophy were unsuccessful. Because the governments of both nations closed their borders and imposed strict quarantine requirements on visitors.

This year’s final limitations have lifted, allowing the three-match series to begin on September 6 in Cairns.

“Every time we come up against the Australians, we have some pretty good games,” said New Zealand all-rounder Mitch Santner, man-of-the-series against West Indies in the one-day component.

“We obviously haven’t played the series in a little bit now… We’ve played a lot of cricket but the week at home will be nice. To get the lads freshened up, ready to go for another Chappell-Hadlee series.”

The one-day international series doesn’t have much at risk besides the trophy. But both teams will have numerous of players who will compete in the T20 WC in October-November.

In particular, New Zealand will be excited for the chance to defeat their trans-Tasman rivals. Before the world championship after losing to Australia in the T20 WC final last year in the United Arab Emirates.
