AUS vs NZ: Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and batter David Warner have been ruled out of the third and final ODI against New Zealand.

The star batter of the team David Warner was released from the squad to rest. In the second ODI, which Australia won by 113 runs, Stoinis only bowled three overs and batted just six balls. In the 23rd over of New Zealand’s innings on Thursday, one over after he had dismissed Jimmy Neesham, Stoinis left the field due to a side problem and did not return for the remainder of the game.

“Stoinis will undergo rehabilitation in Perth leading into Australia’s three-match T20I tour of India from September 21-26,” Cricket Australia said.

“There is no injury concern for Warner who has left the squad to spend more time at home before a hectic 12 months of cricket,” the statement further added.

For the last match in Cairns on Sunday. Pacer Nathan Ellis, who has played for Australia in the three ODIs, added as a replacement.

The team leaves for India the next week for a short T20I tour. And he will return to Perth to try and heal in time. However, side strains may be challenging to recover from in a short amount of time.

In the third and final game of the series, Aaron Finch will captain his team against New Zealand. After earlier on Saturday announcing his retirement from the 50-over format.

Once the New Zealand series done, Australia will leave for their three-match T20I series against India. Starting on September 20 in Mohali, the Finch-led team will play three T20 Internationals against India.
