Asia Cup 2022: Pakistan star pacer Shahnawaz Dahani has been ruled out of the high-octane clash against India with side strain.

“Shahnawaz Dahani will not be available for Sunday’s ACC T20 Asia Cup Super-4 match against India due to a suspected side strain. The injury happened while bowling in the match against Hong Kong in Sharjah on Friday,” PCB said in a statement.

“As is the case with any suspected side strain injury, the medical team will monitor him for the next 48-72 hours, following which they will make decisions, including carrying out a scan and further participation in the tournament,” it added.

Pakistan entering the Super 4s with high spirits after thrashing Hong Kong by 155 runs. Though their reliance on star batter Babar Azam raises some doubts. It was nice to see players like Mohammed Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, and Khusdil Shah score runs to make up for Azam’s underwhelming effort.

For this vital match, Azam will be attempting to get back into his finest shape. Since they are not currently facing Hong Kong or another associate team, Pakistan should use care when facing Indian bowlers. They are going toe to toe with a team that is just as world-class as theirs.

Pakistan’s bowling has been outstanding so far in the Asia Cup. In the two T20I games he has played so far, young pacer Naseem Shah has excelled. And has mostly taken the place of Shaheen Shah Afridi. Pacer Shahnawaz Dahani has also excelled but unfortunately out of the clash against India. Pakistan’s greatest strength in this competition has been its spinners, with Mohammad Nawaz leading the bowling statistics with six wickets. Shadab Khan, a leg-break bowler, is close by, sitting third with five wickets. Pakistan will need to play outstanding pace and spin if they want to win this game.

Pakistan Squad: Babar Azam (c), Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Hasan Ali, Naseem Shah, Shahnawaz Dahani, Usman Qadir, Mohammad Hasnain.
