Asia Cup 2022, India vs Pakistan: It is crucial for a team’s top order to get off to the appropriate kind of start, one that is full of the necessary intent and caution, in order to win a cricket match, especially a T20I contest.

KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and star batter Virat Kohli make up India’s current top order, one of the most feared in the entire globe. They can destroy any bowling assault and hit any line, length, or variation for some exhilarating fours and sixes on their best day. However, they have quite different top-order batting records when playing Pakistan in T20 Internationals. Let’s take a look at how they performed in T20I matches versus Pakistan.

Virat Kohli

This outstanding right-hander is a monster among men if the statistics of Indian batters against Pakistan in T20Is are taken into account. In T20Is, he has scored the most goals for India against Pakistan.

Over eight innings in eight games, he has scored 346 runs at an average of 69.20. This top batter’s willow has produced three half-centuries. His highest individual score in T20Is versus Pakistan is 78*, the highest score an Indian has ever recorded against their traditional adversary in the shortest format.

Rohit Sharma

Since he began opening in 2013, this aggressive right-hander has established himself as one of India’s top batters. With 3,520 runs scored in 134 games including four centuries and 27 half-centuries, he is also the top run-scorer in T20I cricket history.

However, he has a below-average record in the 20-over format versus Pakistan. Rohit has scored only 82 runs at a pitiful average of 13.66 in nine games over eight innings. His greatest individual score was an unbroken 30* scored in 2007 during the ICC T20 World Cup, although he hasn’t even reached half a century against Pakistan.

KL Rahul

Compared to the aforementioned senior batters, KL has played T20I cricket against Pakistan the fewest number of times, with just two games.

His time at the bowling crease in both of his innings was brief because he was out in the first over. He has only managed three runs at an average of 1.50 over these two innings, and his highest individual mark is 3.

Given these figures, it is obvious that Rohit and KL must do better because their skills far exceed the numbers they have posted. They managed 12 and 0 in their previous match against their arch-rivals last Sunday.

In every format versus Pakistan, Rohit and KL have better statistics. In 25 games versus Pakistan, Rohit has amassed 802 runs, including two hundreds, six fifty-sevens, and a respectable average of 40. His personal best against Pakistan was 140.

In his only ODI game against Pakistan, KL Rahul also scored fifty runs.

KL and Rohit have not played well so far in the Asia Cup 2022, scoring 0 and a lethargic 36 and 12 and 21 in their respective two matches.

Virat, on the other side, has a stellar T20I record against Pakistan, demonstrating his capacity and will to perform in crucial games. In the previous week’s match between Team India and Pakistan, he scored 35 from 34 balls.

But because of his poor form this year, he has faced a lot of criticism.

Virat has gone more than 1,000 days without scoring an international century. And his fans are eagerly awaiting his 71st ton. After he has played for India in 70 matches since his last century in November 2019. He has scored 2,648 runs at an average of 34.84 across these games. Since his last triple-digit performance, he has hit 25 half-centuries in all forms.

For Virat, 2022 has been a difficult year.

Virat has played in six T20 Internationals this year, totaling 175 runs at an average of 35. His best score in the format this year is 59*, and he has produced two half-centuries.

Virat has appeared in 18 games this season across all forms. And in 21 innings, he has scored 570 runs at an average of 28.50. This year, he has a top individual score of 79 and has produced five half-centuries.

Kohli is India’s third-highest run scorer versus Pakistan in all forms since the introduction of T20Is. In 21 innings across 21 games, he has scored 882 runs at an average of 55.12. His bat has produced two centuries and five half-centuries against Pakistan. His personal best record against the bitter rivals is 183.

He has so far displayed glimmers of the beloved “King Kohli” at the Asia Cup. He is one of the top five run scorers in the competition thus far with 94 runs in two innings. Including an undefeated 59* against Hong Kong.

So far in the Asia Cup, Pakistan’s bowling assault has been outstanding. While spinners Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan are among the top bowlers thus far. Pacer Naseem Shah has done a fantastic job of stepping into the shoes of spearhead Shaheen Afridi.

Pakistan defeated Hong Kong by 155 runs after bowling them out for just 38 runs. The Indian top order faces a significant task in order to maintain their current level of dominance.

On the other hand, Pakistani bowlers shouldn’t be sidetracked by the past or present performance of India’s top three batsmen. They should bowl their hearts out in opposition to a trio that, on any given day, is capable of easily destroying them.

As they begin their campaign in the Asia Cup’s Super-four on Sunday. India and Pakistan will face off for the second time in a period of ten days.

Both teams will aim to start their Super four campaign on a victorious note. With victories over Pakistan and Hong Kong in their previous games. India will try to keep up their winning streak in the competition. Pakistan would be cautious in the meanwhile given India’s favourable record in the previous five T20Is against them. Of the five games played between the two teams, India has won the last four.
