Asia Cup 2022: India to clash with Pakistan in much-anticipated match today
Rohit Sharma-led India will begin their title defence in Asia Cup 2022 with the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in Dubai today.
This time, feelings will be running high on both sides. India will be eager to get their title defence off to a strong start and exact revenge for their defeat in their previous match at the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Pakistan, on the other side, would hope to continue their momentum over India from their previous performance by defeating Team India once more. India has historically outperformed Pakistan in 20-over international matches. Both teams have faced off nine times in the game’s shortest format since their first T20I match at the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. Pakistan has only won two of these games, whereas India has won seven of them.
However, the last time these two faced off was in October 2021 during the ICC T20 World Cup. When Team India suffered a rare defeat to their arch-rivals. Shaheen Afridi, a left-arm pacer, smashed the Indian top order with two fast blows. India reached 151/7 in their 20 overs thanks to contributions from then-skipper Virat Kohli (57) and Rishabh Pant (39). But innings from Pakistani captain Babar Azam (68*) and Mohammed Rizwan (79*) resulted in a humiliating ten-wicket loss for the Men in Blue.
India will be eager to put up a strong fight this time and exact their retaliation. They recently defeated England and the West Indies in ODI and T20I series played in their respective countries, demonstrating their excellent recent form. They are also the best side in Twenty20 matches. On these tours, Men in Blue put on fantastic shows.
It would be crucial for captain Rohit Sharma, star hitters Virat Kohli and KL Rahul to perform at the top of their game. And display the savagery with their willow that has won them millions of admirers in order to succeed. The spotlight will be on Rohit and Virat to get back to their best and play a game-winning shot.

New stars have been emerging in India’s middle order. Both Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda are dynamic attackers who can make an immediate impact. In this game against their bitter rivals, these two hitters have a chance to go down in history. Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant, two seasoned middle-order hitters and all-rounders, would be eager to maintain their strong form. Hardik will be the centre of attention. Since regaining his fitness, he has proven impossible to contain with both bat and ball.
Dinesh Karthik can speed up run scoring and provide some nice finishing touches if he plays.
The Indian bowling attack is very diverse. All eyes will be on Bhuvneshwar Kumar to lead the attack in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence. This year, he has excelled for India in T20I matches, particularly during powerplays. When India will look to him for quick blows. Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan, two young people, will also have the chance to have an effect.
Veterans Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will be leading the attack in the spin department. They will need to compliment the speed attack well. Along with Yuzvnedra Chahal and young Ravi Bishnoi, and confuse Pakistan with their deliveries.
In terms of the ICC T20I rankings, Pakistan is the third-ranked team and should not be underestimated. Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan, two hitters in their top order, are both performing well. In terms of T20Is, these two are Pakistan’s best. But the team must careful to not rely solely on them & crumble if they do poorly with the bat.
If they want to seriously challenge the Men in Blue, other batters and all-rounders like Fakhar Zaman, Asif Ali, Haider Ali. And others will need to contribute with the bat with the same vigour and effectiveness as their top batters.
Pakistan’s pace attack has suffered greatly without left-arm bowler Shaheen Afridi. Mohammed Wasim, yet another pacer, also ruled out on Friday owing to injury.
Young pacers like Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf are under strain because of injuries. Hasan Ali, a veteran, is also back in the mix. Shaheen has been replaced by Mohammed Hasnain, who has also been added to the team. In the absence of its leader, Pakistan, which has a history of producing some of the best bowlers ever. They have the opportunity to demonstrate its superiority in speed bowling.
Usman Qadir, a spinner, will also need to come up with something truly outstanding to stop the elite Indian batting order.
Whatever the outcome, cricket fans can count on a thrilling match between these two Asian powerhouses. And they will undoubtedly be riveted to their TVs. The atmosphere will be appropriate for a match of this magnitude.
