Asia Cup 2022: India playing good cricket, do not think they will be under pressure, says Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka
Asia Cup 2022: Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka said that Team India has been playing well recently and won’t feel any pressure going into the match against his team in the Super Four.
Tuesday’s second Super Four stage matchup at the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 will pit India versus Sri Lanka. “They (India) had a great game last night. They have been playing good cricket and will be prepared. I do not think they will be under any pressure,” said Shanaka in a pre-match press conference.
The SL captain was asked about his team’s match plans. And indicated that the emphasis would be on batting and positive play.
“Our strategy is mainly about batting, having long partnerships at the top of order. If we end up having that, we will have a better chance of winning the game,” he added.
Talking about the Indian bowling attack in absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami, the SL skipper said:
“I do not think so (that they are inexperienced). They are a proper bowling attack. They have played a lot of IPL and have a lot of experience.”
Virat Kohli, the star Indian batsman who has so far scored 154 runs in three innings with two half-centuries, is having a fantastic Asia Cup, said Shanaka, and his team will be ready to face him.
The Sri Lankan captain expressed his hope that his main spinners will perform well when speaking about bowling spin against India, a team that has recently struggled against spin.
The Men in Blue’s hopes of reaching the tournament’s final, which they have won seven times. And are now defending, will be greatly impacted by their upcoming Super Four phase matchup against Sri Lanka. While Sri Lanka will be hoping to increase their chances of moving on in the competition.
India enters this match still very hurt from their Super Four debut loss to arch-rival Pakistan. It will be in the mind of Men in Blue to keep their campaign going. So that they not only able to lift the trophy for the eighth time. But also avenge this loss to Pakistan, given that the Men in Green qualify for the final as well.
On the other side, Sri Lanka will be looking to build on their four-wicket victory over Afghanistan in their first Super Four match. This team has recently generated some unexpected results. And also defeating a top-tier Indian team will be at the top of their collective bucket list.
