Asia Cup 2022, IND vs HK: Words will be short for Suryakumar Yadav’s innings, says Rohit Sharma after win against Hong Kong
Asia Cup 2022, IND vs HK: The India captain Rohit Sharma lavished praise on star batter Suryakumar Yadav after securing a spot in the Super Four stage of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022, saying that words would be inadequate to express his scorching innings.
After defeating Hong Kong by 40 runs on Wednesday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, India earned direct qualifying to the Super Four stage of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 thanks to Suryakumar’s scorching 68*, Virat Kohli’s 59*, and Ravindra Jadeja’s fast fielding. India defeated Hong Kong in every aspect of play and advanced to the Super four as the second team.
“We batted pretty well to start with, got to a very good score. Came out and bowled reasonably well, we could have done slightly better with the ball,” Rohit Sharma said in a post-match presentation.
Suryakumar’s batting blitz was noteworthy. In just 22 balls, the number four batsman reached fifty runs, capping off India’s innings with four sixes in the final over.
“Suryakumar Yadav the kind of innings he played today, the words will be short. We have seen that with him every now and then. He comes up with such kinds of knocks. He just comes out and bats fearlessly which is what the team expects from him. Some of the shots he played today are not written anywhere in the book. It was very pleasing to watch. Shot selection was also crucial. We know he can play all around the park,” he added.
Talking about the team’s batting order, Rohit said:
“We have also informed the group about this (flexibility in the batting order) as well. Most of the guys are ready to take the opportunity and be ready to bat wherever required. That’s the flexibility we need. We’ll take those chances. We are going to try and use the right match-ups.”
Talking about the match, Hong Kong lost three wickets while chasing a 193-run mark. The crucial wicket of Babar Hayat, who was battering Indian bowler to keep Hong Kong in the game, was taken by star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Then, with a direct smash on the stumps, Jadeja put an end to Nizakat Khan’s innings.
By dismissing Yasim Murtaza as the opener, Arshdeep Singh provided India with a significant victory. Zeeshan Ali, who was in excellent form and hit several huge smashes, tried to help Hong Kong win the game in the last overs. But it was too late as India had already won the match. And also secured a position in the Super Four round of the tournament by a score of 40 runs.
