Asia Cup 2022: Virat Kohli only needs one huge innings to regain his form, feels former India head coach Ravi Shastri, and questions about his form will be put to rest if the batter manages to slam a half-century in India’s inaugural T20I encounter against archrival Pakistan.

On November 23, 2019, Kohli scored his farewell century against Bangladesh in the second Test of the two-match series. In the game, he scored 136 runs in his knock.

“I haven’t spoken to Virat Kohli recently but the ‘big guys’ always wake up at the right time. The downtime for Kohli was good before the Asia Cup gave him a good chance to reflect. If he manages to get a fifty in the match against Pakistan, mouths will shut,” Shastri said speaking about Kohli’s form on Star Sports.

“One innings can make a difference. He needs one innings to get back because the hunger is undiminished. What happened in the past is history. Remember public memory is very short,” Ravi Shastri said in a presser arranged by Star Sports ahead of the Asia Cup,” he added.

Virat Kohli has played 18 Test matches and amassed 872 runs across 32 innings at an average of 27.25 since his previous century. Six times, he has gone beyond the fifty-run threshold, with a top score of 79.

“Kohli is the fittest player in the Indian team and nobody can match Virat Kohli’s work ethic the way he trained. He is a machine. No question, he will definitely come back in his best form. His hunger and passion are unbelievable,” Shastri said.

The hitter has participated in 23 ODIs since his last century in a 50-over format. He has 824 runs scored in them for an average of 35.82. In the format, he has made eight half-centuries, with a high score of 89.

Since his last international century, Kohli has appeared in 27 T20 Internationals. During which time he has scored 858 runs at an average of 42.90. In this format, his highest mark is 94*. Since his last century in this style, he has hit eight half-centuries.

He has played in 68 international games across all formats, appearing in 82 innings. And scored 2,554 runs at an average of 34.05. In all formats, he has hit 24 half-centuries.

After taking a little sabbatical, Kohli will make his comeback to cricket. During the Asia Cup in 2022, he missed the West Indies tour. On August 28, he will play in his first match since making a comeback against Pakistan.

Followers will be hoping that Kohli finds his form again throughout the tournament, scores his eagerly awaited 71st international century soon, and raises his bat and helmet while yelling his heart out for his fans.
