Asia Cup 2022: Pacer Avesh Khan has been ruled out of the remainder of the Asia Cup due to fever related illness on Tuesday.

Seamer Deepak Chahar, who was on standby for the competition, has been selected.

“Avesh has fever and he has also got sinus related problems which has escalated post illness. It will not be possible for him to take further part in the tournament. Deepak Chahar is already there and he will be drafted in THE main squad,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Avesh hasn’t been in good form since the West Indies tour, and the management of the Indian squad became further concerned after he was pummelling by batsmen from Hong Kong for more than 50 runs.

Due to a sickness, he was unable to play against Pakistan. But his coach Rahul Dravid had anticipated that he would recover in time for the remaining contests.

The medical staff forced to exclude Avesh after his sinusitis issues resurfaced.

Chahar, though, is a very effective swing bowler for India who excels at taking off batsmen during Powerplay overs.

During a recent tour to Zimbabwe, he made a comeback by playing two 50-over matches.

The Asia Cup team named before the Zimbabwe tour. Therefore the selectors were unable to include him in the starting lineup. Because his match fitness hadn’t established by that point.

“In any case, Deepak’s comeback was a matter of time as before injury he was ahead in the pecking order compared to Avesh. Yes, it’s an unfortunate circumstance that our fast bowler is out. And we hope Avesh to fit before the Australia series,” the source said.
